Overview

Target Students

The Master of Science in Cardiology Programme aims to develop your interest in cardiology and advance your knowledge in clinical care of cardiac patients. It is designed for professionals who want to pursue a career in clinical cardiology. Students will gain essential and up-to-date knowledge and skills needed for the daily management of cardiac patients in diverse settings.

Mode of Teaching

Part-time study for two years. Maximum study period for four years.

Class

Most classes will be held on Tuesday afternoons at the Prince of Wales Hospital, CU Medical Centre, and CU Main Campus. Some classes may be held on other days of the week.

Tuition Fee

Essential Cardiology Concentration: HK$81,500 per annum

Curriculum

Basic Cardiology

The course will provide comprehensive coverage in basic anatomy, physiology, autonomic system, ECG interpretation, circulation control, molecular biology, endothelial function, hypertension, pregnancy, basic biostatistics and medical ethics.

Clinical Cardiology

This will be a 2-part course covering topics including heart failure, valvular heart disease, acute coronary syndrome, cardiomyopathy; cardiac arrhythmia, adult congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, risk stratification for non-cardiac surgery, management of cardiac emergencies, as well as other common cardiovascular disorders.

Clinical Seminar

This will be a 2-part seminar presenting cases to illustrate clinical approach to common cardiovascular problems, as well as the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiac Procedures

It will be illustrated by videos and introduces basic knowledge of various cardiac investigations and procedures, including basic techniques and precautions.

Dissertation

A 5,000-word dissertation in the form of topical review is required for graduation.

  2. Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a health care discipline from a recognized institution or equivalent, with at least one year working experience.
  3. Applicants with degrees awarded by overseas universities by distance learning or by completing a curriculum of short duration may be required to provide assessment report from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) on the level of qualification obtained.

  4. Copy of reference letter showing at least one year working experience

  6. Confidential recommendations from two referees respectively*
  7. Application fee receipt (not necessary for credit card payment through online application)
  8. Copy of identity card or passport
  9. Individual applicant may be requested to submit additional supporting documents if deemed necessary

* Official transcripts and confidential recommendations must reach us directly from the University and referees, or in sealed envelopes sent by the applicant.
